February 1983 The Italian Center for Salesian Feminine Works (CIOFS), an Entity promoted by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians Institute, began to consider possible interventions in developing countries for the promotion and empowerment of women.

december 1986 CIOFS Presidency communicated to the Board of Directors the importance of pursuing the activity of International Volunteering through an Association. For this reason, the Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians instructed Sr. Maria Grazia Caputo to collaborate with projects of CIOFS , focusing on social and international voluntary work.

NOVEMBER 30th, 1987 Vides Italia- International Volunteering Women Education Development- Italia was established.

February 1988 First meeting of Italian delegates took place for the analysis of the situation, objectives and activities. The identity of VIDES as an association took shape: definition of territorial strategies, institutional recognition of the association, definition of social voluntary work as a pre-condition for international volunteering, programming of the first summer camps.

May 29TH 1989 VIDES was awarded at Campidoglio by the Department of Communication and Entertainment of the Roman Women’s Movement, for its activities to enhance women’s role

April 8TH 1989 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the suitability of VIDES for development cooperation.

From 2000 to today VIDES associative network in Italy has been expanded and consolidated until today, becoming more aware of its identity and enhancing the dialogue with other entities and territorial realities. Through its territorial delegations, VIDES Italia operates in 13 Italian Regions, implementing projects in support of disadvantaged people. Being an educative Agency and an international development cooperation Organism, Vides Italia operates in different countries ith particular attention to education, promotion, protection and training of children, adolescents and women.
